Color idioms

When something comes as a complete surprise, we say: IT COMES AS A BOLT FROM THE BLUE / IT’S A BOLT FROM THE BLUE.
If things happen extremely rarely, we say:  IT HAPPENS ONCE IN A BLUE MOON.
When you waste your time and effort because you won’t get any results, you say: UNTIL I AM BLUE IN THE FACE.

When you go out to celebrate something and drink a lot of alcohol, you say: I PAINTED THE TOWN RED.
If you find someone doing something bad or illegal while he’s doing it, you say: I CAUGHT HIM RED-HANDED.
If you do something to create an angry response, you say: IT’S LIKE A RED RAG TO A BULL.

If someone can be a good gardener and can make plants grow very easily, we say: THEY HAVE GREEN FINGERS / TO HAVE GREEN FINGERS.
If you think other people are always into a better situation than you even when they’re not, we say: THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE.
If we’re unhappy because someone else has something we want, we say: I’M GREEN WITH ENVY.
